Texans to ink Boise State QB Zabransky (AP)
Boise State quarterback Jared Zabransky, who led his team to a 43-42 overtime win against Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl, will sign as a free agent with the Houston Texans. Zabransky helped his team to a 13-0 record last season and capped it with the thrilling come-from-behind victory over the Sooners. The Broncos tied the game on a 50-yard touchdown on fourth-and-18 with 7 seconds to play.

Falcons DT Coleman has knee surgery (AP)
Rod Coleman underwent surgery Monday to repair a ruptured right quadriceps that could keep the Atlanta Falcons’ standout defensive tackle sidelined into September. Falcons spokesman Reggie Roberts confirmed that Coleman was injured in a boating accident recently. Former LB Kevin Mitchell dies at 36 (AP)
Former NFL linebacker Kevin Mitchell died in his sleep at the age of 36. Mitchell died overnight Sunday at his home in Ashburn, near the Washington Redskins’ training facility, according to the team. An autopsy was performed Monday by the Virginia state medical examiner’s office. The cause of death was not immediately announced.

Players union supports Pacman in appeal (AP)
Titans cornerback Adam “Pacman” Jones has filed his appeal of a season-long suspension and a hearing with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell should be held within the next two weeks, a league spokesman said Monday. Jones said earlier this month he planned to appeal and NFL spokesman Greg Aiello confirmed Monday that Jones’ letter arrived at league offices over the weekend.

Chicago Bears defensive tackle Terry “Tank” Johnson pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor weapons charge Monday as part of an arrangement with prosecutors that will keep him from serving additional time in jail. The 25-year-old Johnson pleaded guilty to one count of possessing a firearm without an owner’s identification, said Mary Stanton, chief of the Lake County Court’s misdemeanor division.
