Jets trade LB Vilma to Saints for pick (AP)
The New York Jets traded linebacker Jonathan Vilma to the New Orleans Saints on Friday for a fourth-round draft pick in April. If Vilma reaches certain playtime incentives and signs a contract extension with New Orleans, New York would instead receive a second- or third-round pick in 2009. The Jets would then give the Saints their fourth-round pick next year.

Raiders sign former Giants S Wilson (AP)
The Oakland Raiders signed free safety Gibril Wilson to a six-year, $39 million contract on Friday, again adding a player coming off a Super Bowl championship. Wilson’s 284 solo tackles since entering the NFL in 2004 are the most of any safety during that span. The San Jose native had 70 tackles and a career-high four interceptions in 13 games for the New York Giants last season.

The Detroit Lions traded Shaun Rogers to the Cincinnati Bengals on Friday for third- and fifth-round picks. Detroit had been fielding offers for the talented but inconsistent defensive tackle and settled for the Bengals’ offer of two selections in the middle of the NFL draft in April. Rogers is among the most dominant defensive players in the league when he is motivated.
